Actually let me guess, I challenged a posters ego, and dared suggest that a posters opinion may be just that an opinion. Anyway with out clarification of what I said wrong, in my opinion each posters opinion is valid in their interpretation of life.

The famous " blade runner" Oscor Pistorius, is to serve a long prison term for murdering his girlfriend. So my question is who " HERE" would waste time debating this comment?

" I had the biggest crush on him he must be innocent"

Yet who would deny the person who made that comment is entitled to their opinion?

So In my opinin the sensible thing to do, is not waste time with that person debating that opinion?

Now I am not saying people who want to believe in God or not believe in God are wrong, but in my opinion if you want to sincerely debate the existence/non existence of God then do so on a site that really challenges your thinking.

In my humble opinion these threads asking for proof of Gods existence cause more trouble than they are worth. Personally I could neither proove Gods existence / non existence anymore than I can proove I exist.

So in conclusion thank you for all the sincere points of view, but whilst I am at it I think my time would be better spent trying to sell ice to Eskimos, or if I am really ambitious trying to negotiate an oil deal with the Arabs. And if by some chance I could have negotiated an oil deal with an Arab, I would be extremely cross if I had instead chosen to spend my time trying to work out if God existed or not on an ex- Jehovers witness debating forum.

Anyway if by any chance it can be proven God exists, I would also like a photo to support the evidence. ( Now that's not to much to ask is it?)

Why are members of the G.B worshipped?

an interesting thought, let's take geoffrey jackson.. born: unfortunately.

age: who cares, his going to live for ever.. sex: i believe he has a young wife?

special-qualities:- very good at making speeches ( usually talking bullshit) always wears a tie, has own tailor made suit, and expensive apple watch.

I started this O.P with a humourrous look at a member of the G.B. Now I will be more direct and give an example showing HOW the flock worship the G.B:-

many children do not like sitting through long religious meetings each week, they do so because the parents are " ventriloquists" of the G.B, and therefore say " you have got to go to the meetings" if that is not worshipping the G.B then I for the life of me don't know what is.

Answering the WHY to my O.P " why are members of G.B is worshipped", I can only answer as a former witness, and say the whole thing is a bit Monty Python to me.

The "excuses" used by Witnesses....

have you noticed how witnesses feel that they need to use an "excuse" or "reason" for any big personal decision they make?.

for instance, if they want to move to another part of the world it is "to serve where the need is greater, or to help the truth" (rather than "we just wanted to move to....because we have always wanted to live there").

or if they want a holiday many will say "oh we will "help the local brothers while we are there..." .

Your O.P makes an important point. Honestly amazing isn't it. Another observation is the hypocrisy that elders spouted from the platform whilst not realizing they were " excusing" themselves. For example :-

I used to be absolutely bowled over how the Elders could lecture from the platform about education ect, and not realize they lived in the nicest houses with mortgages paid off, whilst many in the congregation were really living hand to mouth.

With the issue of personal grooming, Elders would regularly rumble on about how designer stubble, or beards were worn by " untrustworthy" people, yet these very elders wore a mustache or goatie beard. and for the life of me I couldnt see a difference.

Now as for modesty of dress, my heart was in my mouth as I listernd to the many mistakes the flock were making in this regard, sisters with skirts above the knee, and brothers with designer suits. The Irony was these Super Pious Elders and there wife's dated clothes from the eighties was not modesty of dress, just out of date fashion.

So in conclusion I think being a "non -paid" employee of the Watchtower, does require a lot of making excuses for oneself, particularly if one attempts to be individual or have fun- but as an ex " non-paid" employee of the Watchtower I have decided to jolly well dress as I like, and I will be dashed if I am not going to have some fun as well, with out having to make excuses or justify myself to anybody.

It is 5am and I still can't sleep. Contemplating life, doing research on religion, world history, science...

my husband is still asleep but he will get up in about an hour for work so i'm going to quickly tell you my inconclusive conclusion.

i don't know if i can believe in god anymore.

i have come to the simple conclusion that he is either dead or evil but he is definitely not loving.

What a lovely post to conclude that God is of no fixed abode.

Personally I have always believed children have the best imagination, and when we grow older, we suddenly stop. Why? Perhaps because any intelligent adult loses that innocence, and joyful imagination of youth. Who Knows? Certainly not me. And yet - is it truly foolish not to cherish the imagination of our youth? And if so, then happy I am to be a fool. So I understand also your last paragraph.

Maybe you should read some buddiisam, it does give some meaning to life. and without the walls of religion. As the Buddha sad if somebody says something and it doesn't agree with your own common sense and reason, then don't believe it, no matter who said it, even if I said it ( The Buddha)

Or here is some wisdom from The Rebel, My thoughts belong to me, not my wife, not my son, not my father, not my mother, not religious leaders, not my boss, not ...well you get the point. Anyway you wrote it much better " I think, therefore i am" and all I would add is I try to think in such a way that I am happy, to be alive.

for me, the dead giveaway is this.

jesus wrote nothing.. stop and think about that.. if jesus were the authentic messiah, his ministry would not simply be local.. his instructions, his mission, the details of his teachings would be too precious to risk leaving it in the hands of "men unlettered (illiterate) and ordinary (blue-collar yokels).".

jesus, were he the one and only hope of mankind, would be absolutely certain to write down with great simplicity and specificity the exact owner's manual necessary to rescue mankind.. never happened!.
